This website is a tribute to all men and women who, since 1872, by loving Guimarães and the Church, with dedication and ingenuity made this natural heritage - Penha - a tourism resort of an extraordinary value, of an intense religious cult and of great conditions for leisure and reflection, where the silence is heard, the stones speak and the fountains whisper.
Here notable works were made.
The embellishment forest, the labyrinthine ways around the huge granite blocks, the uptake and distribution of potable water, the construction of caves, chapels and the Monumental Eucharistic Sanctuary, the access roads, the car parks. Likewise, the hotel equipment, the campsite and the first cable car in the country, accredit for all those who with love to Guimarães and the Christian faith, became the Penha in the big cathedral of nature, where everything sings and where there are always more to discover.
The image of Nossa Senhora da Penha is venerated since 1894. Every year on the second Sunday of September, the Archpriest-ship of Guimarães focuses on prayer and pays tribute to her.
